Arlokea x The Komenda Project
Past Successes
2022: Desks and Textbooks
In 2022, we collaborated with Arlokea to raise $522 CAD to buy 54 Desks and 66 textbooks for students at A.M.E ZION BASIC SCHOOL located in Odumase, Ghana. in order to help reduce the barriers students face while attending school.
As John Bosco who, a teacher at A. M. E. Zion Basic, had remarked before the campaign, English textbooks were needed since it tended to be one of the lowest scored subject. Not only were we able to provide some English textbooks, we also included math and science textbooks, divided equally between grades 4, 5, and 6.
Before the donations, there were sometimes 3 students to a desk and the school had asked that students make a one time purchase of a desk despite most students not being able to afford textbooks. The additional desks allowed students to be more comfortable in the classrooms.
2021: School Kits
In 2021, Arlokea raised $560 to supply school kits to 100 children and 30 teachers at St. Michael's & All Angels Anglican Primary School in Komenda, Ghana.
The donation of school kits was able to:
-
Reduce absenteeism in school, as students no longer have the excuse of missing classes due to a lack of school materials.
-
Reduce the burden of purchasing school materials from parents.
-
Enhance reading abilities as students have their own reading materials to use at home.
